Safety First Release Honest and Heartfelt New EP Not As Boring As It Sounds

Sydney indie rock outfit Safety First have unveiled their powerful new EP, Not As Boring As It Sounds — a raw and introspective collection that blends emotional storytelling with fuzzy, sun-drenched guitars and sharp lyrical wit.
Led by Lexi Green, the Eora/Sydney-based songwriter and vocalist, Safety First deliver an EP that dives deep into themes of self-identity, sexuality, and human connection, wrapped in the band’s signature jangle-rock charm. Balancing deeply personal reflections with a conversational vocal style and glistening indie melodies, the record showcases a project unafraid to confront discomfort with honesty and humour.

The EP’s focus track, “This Song Reminds Me of Friends I Don’t Speak To Anymore,” stands out as one of its most emotionally charged moments — exploring the fallout of blurred friendships and the difficulty of moving on. Elsewhere, “Bracelet” offers a cathartic, gritty departure from the band’s usual playfulness, written during a period of intense self-discovery for Lexi.
“I wrote the lyrics during a very turbulent period of my life – I had recently come out as non binary, and been diagnosed with ADHD and my whole life felt like it had been turned on its head”.
Not As Boring As It Sounds sees Safety First continue to carve their place in Australia’s indie landscape, proving once again that vulnerability, when met with melody and meaning, is anything but boring.
