SAFIA’s Surreal Journey Through Canberra’s Wilderness in ‘Live At First Light’

Canberra-based electronic trio SAFIA has unveiled a mesmerising live performance video titled ‘Live At First Light,’ showcasing their latest album ‘A Lover’s Guide To A Lucid Dream.’ Partnering with Visit Canberra, the video offers an uninterrupted voyage through the ethereal landscapes of their third album, set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Australian wilderness at Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve.

Lead singer Ben Woolner drew inspiration from the region’s natural beauty while crafting the album, often finding solace in the sprawling landscapes during hikes. This profound connection to Canberra’s environment is palpable throughout the performance, with intricate lighting designs accentuating the thematic depth of their music as night falls, and cinematic shots revealing SAFIA amidst the unique landscapes at dawn.

Reflecting on the creative process, the band expressed, “This album wasn’t easy to make, and neither was this expression of it, but both processes felt necessary.” The video not only pays homage to their roots but also respects the land’s significance to the Ngunnawal people, with SAFIA conducting a Welcome to Country ceremony before filming.

Tara Cheyne, Minister for the Arts, Culture, and the Creative Economy, praised the collaboration, highlighting Canberra’s inspiring environment and the deep respect for Indigenous culture showcased in the video. With its dream-like narrative and captivating visuals, ‘Live At First Light’ promises to captivate audiences worldwide while promoting the beauty of the Canberra region.
