Selve Unleash Bold New Single ‘Loki Horror Picture Show’ Ahead of Landmark Abbey Road Album
Gold Coast genre-defiers Selve return with their latest auditory explosion, Loki Horror Picture Show, a wildly theatrical new single from their forthcoming album Breaking Into Heaven, due out 12 September. Fronted by proud Jabirr Jabirr artist Loki Liddle, the six-piece tap into campy post-punk, indie-pop and new-wave energy to explore the surreal highs and dark undercurrents of chasing dreams in a spectacle-obsessed world.
Brimming with charismatic flair and razor-sharp cultural references, the track takes cues from Talking Heads, Charli XCX and DEVO, all while anchoring itself in Liddle’s signature drawl and theatrical storytelling. It’s a sharp, self-aware commentary on ambition, identity, and the blurred line between persona and reality.
The single arrives alongside a stylised, cinematic video co-directed by Liddle and visual collaborator Josh Tate, continuing Selve’s evolving Cinematic Universe. Inspired by Eraserhead and late-night TV, the clip adds a layer of surrealism and psychological depth to the song’s effervescent delivery.

“The ‘Loki Horror Picture Show‘ music video is an exploration of identity, mental health and the dangers of getting lost in the sauce when chasing your dreams. This version of myself in a dying delusion of grandeur is a hyperbolic representation of the parts of ourselves we are willing to sacrifice and compromise in order to pursue a vision of success. We wanted to underpin the spectacle with a little bit of darkness to make clear that we’re not glorifying it, but investigating its absurdity. The device of the gunshot came from this place – to contrast the lightness of the song and create a sense of unease – however it was important for me to have the gunshot be off-camera, stylised and implied rather than shown in great detail, as depictions of gun violence are something that I know require great sensitivity.” – Loki LIddle.
The track also serves as a curtain-raiser for Selve’s groundbreaking upcoming show at BLEACH* Festival 2025, where they’ll debut the album live with a full orchestra, immersive visuals and dance from Karul Projects. With Breaking Into Heaven set to become the first full-length album by an Aboriginal artist recorded at Abbey Road, Selve are ready to rewrite the rules — and history.
