Slipknot Announce Australian Headline Tour

Slipknot

Dust off your most grotesque mask and get ready to mosh ’cause heavy metal giants Slipknot have announced they’ll be coming down under for a headline tour in October! The string of shows will be the first time the band has set foot in our great sunbaked land since Soundwave 2015.

Slipknot’s illustrious career spans over two decades, with their breakthrough coming in 1999 with the release of their eponymous debut self-title album. The album, which spans several heavy genres and spawned the hit single Wait and Bleed, was well received by both fans and critics and saw the band become a household name worldwide. The album has gone on to become certified double platinum in the United States, making it Slipknot’s most successful album to date.

Since then, the band has had a successful run of releases, with 2001’s ‘Iowa’ being certified platinum in the United States and Canada, and including the Grammy-nominated single Left Behind. The band’s 2008 full-length ‘All Hope Is Gone’ also received critical acclaim, with the album’s second single Psychosocial nominated for ‘Best Metal Performance’ for the 51st Grammy Awards.

The masked 9-piece released their latest album ‘.5: The Gray Chapter’ in 2014 to great critical success. The album, which is the fifth full-length release from the band, in case the name didn’t give it away, landed at number 1 on the ARIA Album Charts, and was nominated for a Grammy for Best Rock Album in 2015. It also spawned singles The Negative One and Custer, which were nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance in 2014 and 2015, respectively.

Fans are in for a big treat, as Slipknot’s live shows are a pyromaniac’s wet dream, filled with high energy and constant movement. Their Soundwave 2015 performance saw the band’s two drummers suspended on platforms above the stage, while the other band members ran around beneath them. Not ones to disappoint, we can only assume this Australian tour will see an even bigger and better stage show.

The tour announcement comes after much speculation of a ‘Straya tour. Earlier this month people began noticing posters popping up in various Australian cities featuring Slipknot band members and the words “Prepare For Hell”.

Tickets for the tour will go on sale on Monday, May 23rd at 11am.
