Slowcoaching Returns After Five Years with Haunting New Single ‘It Was Nice Meeting You’
After nearly five years of silence, Melbourne dream pop artist Slowcoaching—the moniker of Dean Valentino—has finally returned with a brand new single, ‘It Was Nice Meeting You’. The brooding, baritone-driven track marks the beginning of a bold new creative era for the project, pushing Slowcoaching’s hazy dream pop sound into darker, more experimental territory.
Produced and mixed by longtime collaborator James Freeman, the single was written in the quiet solitude of Valentino’s home studio at 5AM, capturing the restless feeling of insomnia, disassociation, and the struggle for human connection. Chorus-laden guitars, pulsing drum machines, and layers of smoky reverb create a soundscape that feels both intimate and expansive, reflecting the song’s themes of invisibility and the mundane comfort of solitude.
“There are often times where I feel like I’m watching myself function with other people and don’t really remember places I’ve been, things I’ve done or what has been said in conversations, It’s an odd feeling that means you can’t always appreciate things in the moment, but there’s also this dark comfort in being alone and appreciating some of life’s more ordinary offerings.” – Dean Valentino, Slowcoaching.
