SPOTLIGHT: Cub Sport Nail It With New Summer Jam
After two years of silence Brisbane’s Cub Sport have returned to winning ways with their outrageously fun single I Can’t Save You.
Despite numerous name changes (originally Tim Nelson and The Cub Scouts, then Cub Scouts, now Cub Sport), the indie alt-pop quartet are back in the frame with their first single of 2016 and second from their upcoming debut album.
More up beat than the previous single Only Friend, released back in October last year, Tim Nelson’s airy vocals give the track a dream-like quality that’s anchored by a bass line that jumps just behind rhythmic synths, to overall walk on the right side of cheesy 80’s pop.
Repeated listens offer more details that could be easily missed if you weren’t paying attention, such as lo-fi synth pops cascade throughout the background and small flourishes that disappear just as quickly as they arrived, making you wonder what else could be layered throughout the summery track.
The single comes the band’s debut album ‘This Is Our Vice’, due to release on Friday 4th March.
As an added bonus to keen fans, if you pre-order the album you go in the draw to win a trip to Brisbane to pit yourself against the band in karaoke (for those who want the chance to test your vocal capabilities against a person known for singing exceptionally well).
Cub Sport will be touring throughout Australia with Saskwatch through March and April.
