Spotlight: Elliot Maginot Charms Us With Moody Debut Album
Montreal native Elliot Maginot has exploded into our ears with evocative dark acoustic-pop in his debut album ‘Young/Old/Everything in Between’.
On the album, Maginot displays great vocal range, spanning from his chilling pop sound in Monsters at War to his baroque-pop and very Bon Iver-ish tune Still Alive.
With its minor key, Monsters at War possesses an eerie quality thanks to the finger-picked guitar part and Maginot’s hurried vocal delivery. However, the catchy melody and driving beat provides plenty of room for Maginot to show off his strong and distinct vocals.
In contrast, Still Alive sounds significantly more tranquil, with charming harmonies and captivating vocal melodies, which dominate the track and leave us wanting to hear more.
In an interview with Montreal Gazette, Maginot states, “Like every musician around the world, I was very impressed by Bon Iver’s first record.”
He goes on to say, “I’ve always known that given the means, I knew what I wanted to do. Make a very trippy record, very wide.”
With such a unique voice and catchy acoustics to match, it’s no wonder Canadian Music Blog rated ‘Young/Old/Everything in Between’ number 12 on their list of 25 Best Albums of 2015.
Elliot Maginot will be touring around Australia throughout January and February, with shows in New South Wales, Tasmania, and Victoria.
