Summer’s Here Early With Griswolds’ New Track

The Griswolds

Strap on you summer dance pants early, ‘cause Sydney’s alt-indie-pop-rock kings The Griswolds have come bursting back onto the scene with Out of My Head. It’s the band’s first release since their 2014 debut album ‘Be Impressive’.

If you were worried that the quartet might have changed tone after their heavy touring schedule, you can put those fears to bed immediately. The new track sounds like it could be cut from with ‘Be Impressive’ or the band’s earlier ‘Heart Of A Lion’ EP. The song relies on synthesiser melodies played on top of beachy, sunny guitar chords and powerful percussion. The signature mammoth drum beats built around thundering tom work are complimented with layers of other percussion, such as hand claps and bongos.

The band’s vocalist, Chris Whitehall works his magic with his falsettos and powerful choruses, and he is helped out by the usual anthemic chants and backing vocals, which range from smooth harmonies to aggressive shouts. The lyrics talk about a break up that the protagonist is keen to move on from after a messy, but memorable relationship.

The Griswolds have been on a mammoth touring run since their album dropped in the second half of 2014, with no less than five headline tours comprising of 200 shows in the US in the last three years. They’ve also been all over Europe, and supported acts like Passion Pit, Walk the Moon and The Kooks. ‘Be Impressive’ turned out to be a pretty mega hit in the US, debuting at #2 on the Billboard New Alternatives Chart.

While there is no concrete news on the forthcoming sophomore album, apart from the fact that it is happening, we’re loving this first taste. It will have you jumping around getting your pop-rock fix!
