Superheist Announce Album, Tour, & Fresh Single “Fearing Nothing”
The ongoing worldwide nu-metal revival marks the comeback of yet another hard-hitting band from the golden years with Australia’s own Superheist spewing out a bunch of exciting news. With the release of brand spanking new single Fearing Nothing, the band have also unveiled their upcoming album ‘Ghosts of the Social Dead’ and accompanying national tour.
Fearing Nothing is a callback to the emotional anthems that littered the nu-metal and alternative scene in the late 90s to mid-2000s. The song is full of powerful vocal hooks, driving guitars, and thick ambient piano and synthesised ambience, staying true to form and marking a respectable comeback for the band. New vocalist Ezekial Ox delivers a soaring performance, with an instantly gripping lyrical chant “Fearing nothing, I’m still fearing nothing” being a metaphor for the band fearlessly returning to the fray and unwavering from their passions.
The accompanying video features the band performing in an empty room, with the band and a shirtless Ox performing just about every cliché and stereotyped ‘move’ there is (shoutout to wearing sunglasses indoors!). That isn’t to say the video isn’t well produced, it’s simply unfortunate the band appear to be stuck in their hey-day, which doesn’t translate well nearly 15 years on. The story follows a young woman going through what seems like an identity crisis, ending with her jumping off a CGI rendered Hollywood sign at the climax of the song.
Forming way back in 1993, Superheist first rose to fame in the early 2000s with albums ‘The Prize Recruit’, which reached #12 on the 2001 ARIA charts, and ‘Identical Remote Controlled Reactions’ which hit #20 on the 2002 ARIA charts. The band built up a large following with relentless touring, including a main stage slot at 2002’a Big Day Out, a spot on the 1999 Australian Vans Warped Tour, and massive supports alongside Eminem, Grinspoon, Fear Factory, and Sepultura.
Recorded in North Hollywood at NRG studios, the home of many of the trail-blazers in the nu-metal genre (Linkin Park, Korn, Limp Bizkit), ‘Ghosts of the Social Dead’ is the band’s first studio release in over a decade and is set for release on Friday 21st of October. Superheist are also setting out on the ‘Don’t Call it a Comeback’ Tour across the country in late October through to early December.
