Hip-Hop Master Rapaport Drops Grime-Inspired Track
After spending six years setting up his own label Big Village, Sydney emcee Rapaport has gone ahead and dropped his comeback single What I Got.
Rapaport’s track brings Grime-inspired beats together with super clean production. Keeping a distinct Aussie hip-hop sound similar to Hilltop Hoods, Rapport’s lyricism is kept tidy and smart, sticking to simple repeated phrases and plays on words.
What I Got employs diverse instrumentation including sporadic guitars and vintage-style sampling in a way that brings to mind the musical and vocal stylings of RATBOY. Built on the ferocity of an African tribal beat, fellow Sydneysider Billie McCarthy’s vocal chops cut through the mix to create harmonies and moments of pure clarity.
Rapaport’s debut album ‘Village Idiot’ is slated for release in early 2017, but if you can’t hold out that long, you can catch him launching his single this month!
