Sydney Producer Trio BV Release Dark Rave Anthem “Up In The Flesh”

bv

After releasing their first enchanting mixtape ‘Black On Black On Black’ way back in 2013, the ethereal and elusive trio of producers BV (formally Black Vanilla) are finally building up to the release of their sophomore tape ‘B2V’. After releasing the pulsating Slug and transient Huh in the months prior, the Sydney lads have now released Up In The Flesh, arguably their most experimental release yet.

While their first project embodied quite a warm, feel good sound, Up In The Flesh is certainly the furthest away from that. It’s therefore clear BV have gone through a strong evolution in their sound within the last three years. Turning to the more dark, abstract and experimental sounds, Up In The Flesh is one for the basement raves rather than the glittery clubs. Think a mixture of early The Prodigy and a more grimey Jamix xx…

Opening with a truly throbbing, distorted kick which pounds throughout the tune, we are soon greeted by Marcus Whale’s silky smooth vocals which skate over the booming bass beneath. A string of clangy drum sounds slide forth, reshaping the track once again into a more fast paced, double tempo banger.

As the track softens with an array of ambient tones, making way for more relaxed Whale, it’s not long before this comes to an abrupt end with a range of violent chants which build onto the original mix. As the verses then begin to replay over themselves, it’s certain that this is the perfect track for those mind mashing nights.

There’s definitely a strong influence from sounds over the water, especially with Britain’s electronic and drum and bass legends. But to see these mixing with more vibrant vocals and sounds from our shores, this is a unique twist which will have us keeping an ears on these fellas indefinitely.

BV’s upcoming mixtape ‘B2V’ is set for release on Friday the 18th of November. In the meantime check out Up In The Flesh below!
