Take 5 With Ben Lunt
Perth indie folk artist Ben Lunt has been making waves with his heartfelt storytelling and warm, acoustic-driven sound. Just last month, we had the pleasure of premiering his latest single, ‘Amelia’, a beautifully crafted track that showcases his rich vocals and introspective lyricism. Today, Ben takes us inside his world of musical inspiration, sharing his five favourite artists of the moment and why they resonate with him. From sonic influences to songwriting admiration, here’s a glimpse into the sounds shaping Ben Lunt’s creative journey right now.
Have been hooked to this band for a few years now and they’re easily my favourite band at the moment (waiting patiently for them to tour Australia). I just love the passion and road trip imagery that comes through with a heap of their songs and even the new singles that have been coming out for their upcoming album such as ‘Highway Queen’, ‘She wants to go dancing’ and ‘More more more’ I absolutely froth. Also having listened to Matt Quinn talk about his growth and success as a band, I have found it very helpful as an artist.
Again a band I’ve been a fan of for quite a while now, which I got the pleasure of seeing live in Melbourne a couple years back. Love the songwriting from this band, from their early albums to even their latest stuff, whenever I’ve got a long drive there’ll always be lumineers coming on. I feel that they’ve also been a huge inspiration and influence on my own music, especially with showing emotion and vulnerability in the songwriting.
A recent memory: Surrounded by my best mates, dancing around the swimming pool while Royal Otis’s ‘If Our Love Is Dead is blasting on the speakers for the hottest 100. Absolutely love jamming out some Royal Otis after a long day!
Have been going through a little bit of a John Denver phase for the last couple years. Not only is it fun performing a Ben Lunt version of ‘Take Me Home, Country Roads’ for everyone to sing-along to at my gigs but I just love listening to a range of his songs. He has a way of packing so much love and emotion in his simplistic style lyrics, with that iconic folk voice. I honestly think he does the best version of ‘Let It Be’. If I’m ever feeling a little low I can always put ‘Sunshine on my shoulders’ to cheer me up.
Currently the best concert I’ve been to in my life was a Ball Park Music one, it made me realise just how much I love their music. I admire so much just how authentic and powerful the band is. I’d previously heard their hits such as ‘It’s Nice To Be Alive’ but I actually started really getting into them around one of their last album’s ‘Weirder & Weirder’ and was blown away. One single that especially got me was ‘Stars In My Eyes’. I honestly get emotional every time I listen to it. Huge appreciation for this Australian Band and am very excited to hear their new album.
Ben’s latest single, Amelia is available now, everywhere.
