Take 5 With FARR

The smooth and soulful FARR have just released their much anticipated album Weightless to a very warm reception. The duo consisting of LA based vocalist Romeo and London based producer Linden Jay have been really turning heads worldwide over the past 12 months.

To celebrate the release of Weightless we thought we’d catch up with them (remotely of course) to find out the top 5 most inspirational artists they dig.

George Clinton

My brother took me to see Funkadelic when I was a teenager and it completely blew my mind. I’d never heard anything that funky in my life and forever after that I was obsessed with the band. I was once playing at a festival in Dublin where P-Funk were on straight after us and I watched from the side of the stage. After the show I met George and I respectfully said hello.

Bill Withers

Where do I start… His recent passing really hurt. He never considered himself a virtuoso, but instead just a songwriter who could sing. His songs connect to us on a different level and that level of honesty transcends all trends. On his album ‘Still Bill’ he put Use Me, Lean on Me and Kissing My Love in a row – I don’t think you’ll ever find three stronger songs in a row on any album.

James Yancey (J Dilla)

As a producer, Dilla is my number one influence. Over the years I’ve spent so much time obsessing over his instrumentals, trying to deeply understand exactly what’s going on. None of his beats are rocket science but their simplicity is what is so captivating to me. No other hip hop producer has as much of a staple sound that set the standard for decades to come. Who knows what he would have done next if it wasn’t for his early passing.

Flying Lotus

Flying Lotus will always remind me that musically you can do whatever the hell you want as long as you’re consistent. In the shadows of J Dilla, he continues to break the mold with every release and his approach to electronic music inspires me.

H.E.R.

I think she’s one of the best songwriters alive right now. There’s something so mind bogglingly simple about every song in the most perfect way and I’d love to just hang out and learn her ways.

FARR’s brand new record Weightless is out now everywhere! It’s an exceptional record from start to finish. Give it a spin, you won’t regret it.
