Take 5 With King Ibis

Boorloo/Perth-based indie-rock band King Ibis have just unveiled their cathartic single ‘Cooling Embers‘ – produced and mixed by Dave Parkin at Blackbird Studios (Spacey JaneSly WithersOldMervs). To celebrate the release, the band have collectively shared with us their 5 favourite tracks of all time and why.

Dramamine – Middle Kids

The first time I heard this song I was instantly hooked and it has been on repeat ever since. We’ve always credited Middle Kids as a major influence on us and have loved everything they’ve released to date. We can’t wait to hear more of the new album when it drops in a couple of days. – John

Let it Lay – Green Pools

A song I’ve been smashing lately is ‘Let it Lay’ by fellow Perth band and our very good mates, Green Pools. It’s got an understated yet powerful groove that refuses to quit, which always puts me in a good mood. I love the juxtaposition of the heavier, decaying guitar tones with the ethereal dreaminess of the vocals. So many interesting textures and layers that only reveal themselves on multiple replays. – Samantha

How to Make Gravy – Paul Kelly

This song has always been an absolute favourite for me and honestly it might be one of the greatest songs of all time in my opinion. I was very much thinking of the anthemic nature of it when we were writing the chorus for Embers, with the chaotic adding of more instrumental layers while the vocals sit pride in place at the front. – Matt

Think I’m in Love With You – Chris Stapleton

Like a lot of the world right now, I’ve been going through my country phase and no one does it better then Chris Stapleton at the moment. I think this song has been the stand out from the album Higher, the laid-back grooving rhythm, tight bass lines and Stapleton’s rich and raspy vocals are just perfect, I really wish we wrote this one. We recently did a run of shows down south and this album certainly made the 8-hour drive home a little more bearable. I’m pretty sure we lost signal at one point and all we had downloaded was this album so it copped a couple of repeats. – John

Good Puss – COBRAH

It’s a bop.  – Nadene
