Take 5 With Modern Living
Modern Living is the boundary-pushing project from electronic producers and musicians James Curd and Mark Share, both formerly of the indie group Greenskeepers. After a year of working behind the scenes with top-tier acts like DRAMA and San Cisco, the duo is stepping into the spotlight with their debut single, Got You Feeling, featuring the vibrant vocals of pop songwriter Ivoris. To celebrate the debut release and to get to know them better, the pair have shared with us, 5 facts about themselves.
TAKE 5 WITH MODERN LIVING: 5 FUN FACTS ABOUT YOUR NEW FAVOURITE DANCE DUO
1) During a run of shows we did in New York, we let the promoter choose the opening act for a couple of nights. An unknown band took the stage and blew us away— turns out it was one of their early first gigs. That band happened to be Vampire Weekend.
2) Years ago, a friend needed cash and sold me a vintage synth. He mentioned it had belonged to a duo upgrading their gear during an early Chicago show. It turned out to be Daft Punk’s original Moog Rogue, and it’s been in the studio ever since. Among other iconic gear we have acquired, Mark also snagged a Jupiter 6 keyboard from a seller on Craigslist who happened to be DJ Lethal of House of Pain.
3) While touring in Australia, we were hanging out with Gus from The Bang Gang DJs, and he asked if he could get a remix of a song for his cousin’s new project. The answer was yes without even hearing the track. That song? It was “Crave You” by Flight Facilities, and it became a defining moment in our love for Australia.
4) After remixing PNAU’s “Enuff’s Enuff” we became friends with the band and their manager. At a gig in LA, the manager brought a new artist, but they couldn’t get in due to age restrictions. Turns out, the artist waiting outside was none other than The Veronicas.
5) Triumph of Spirit: Before music, James gave acting a shot, and he still has a box of headshots as a reminder. His roommate from back in the day still jokes that there were boxes everywhere, though James swears it was only one. Meanwhile, Mark went through a Michael Jackson phase and wore a single sequined glove for a year straight. It might’ve gone unnoticed in 1985, but as it was actually last year, it raised a few eyebrows.
Got You Feeling is a sun-soaked burst of nostalgic dance pop, brimming with catchy hooks, sleek production, and smooth vocals. The track effortlessly evokes the feeling of cruising with the windows down at sunset, balancing a carefree vibe with intricate, whimsical layers. The chemistry between Ivoris and Modern Living creates an undeniable spark, making the collaboration feel truly magical.
