Take 5 With Nicholas Brown
Singer/songwriter, Nicholas Brown recently revealed his new single, Up And Coming, a soulful 80’s nod that is a true bop. Today we handed Nicholas the aux cord to find out what artists/tracks have inspired him throughout his journey so far.
Hyperballad by Björk.
The string section at the end is the most beautiful I’ve ever heard. The chorus lifts so beautifully from the verse. I will always be devoted to car parts, bottles and cutlery. The song is perfect.
Go Or Go Ahead by Rufus Wainwright.
Rufus’s voice is so powerful in this song. It’s dark, it’s heartbreaking, it takes you on a journey. I can’t think of another pop song that is so epic.
Lewis Takes Off His Shirt by Owen Pallet
I love the pace of this song. It makes me feel like I’m running on air – or spinning in the sky/swirling into the earth. The strings and horns are so joyous but melancholic at the same time. Owen’s voice is so unique and vulnerable. The lyrics are so gorgeous and poetic. This song makes me so happy.
Better The Devil You Know by Kylie Minogue
Absolute pop perfection. Nineties brilliance and a call out to the rainbow folk. One of my favourite synth string melodies of all time is in the chorus of this song.
Blind by Hercules & Love Affair feat. Anohni (Frankie Knuckles Remix)
The lyrics, the synth, the bassline, Anohni’s voice, the keys, the horns, the beats, the production, the story – this song is a dance floor must. Heavenly. Definitely in my top five all time faves.
