Take 5 With This Space Is Ours

Melbourne punk outfit This Space Is Ours unleashed their latest single Help Me last month — and we were stoked to premiere it here on AAA Backstage. The track channels everything the band does best: high-octane energy, emotional chaos, and a heavy dose of early 2000s nostalgia. To keep the vibes rolling, we asked the band to Take 5 and share the tracks that are inspiring them right now. From punchy emo throwbacks to bold pop bangers, their current rotation is as unfiltered and exciting as the band themselves.

Nezumi – Nightlight

Nightlight is a local Melbourne trio who are truly destined for big things and you can tell that the minute you look at them and hear them because they are something fresh and new. This song was a favourite from their live shows and was long awaited before it came out. The best way I can describe it is it’s fierce and c*nty in the best way possible.

Haunted – Spanish Love Songs

This is personally one of my favourite songs of all time. I’m a big lyrics person and Spanish Love Songs truly knock it out of the park with every song. This song is my cheer up song that isn’t too disgustingly positive. The perfect song for when you just want to knock some sense back into your depressed brain.

All Around Me – Flyleaf

This is a song that I’ve recently gotten back into since not listening to it since I was a teenager and I’m so glad I did. There’s so many clever little intricacies in this song, especially in the vocals, it makes it fun to listen to each time so you can pick up on those things.

Super Graphic Ultra Modern Girl – Chappell Roan

A complete genre twist for this list here but I had to include some Chappell as she was truly the woman of the year last year. This song is literally the most fun song I’ve ever heard and if you say that it doesn’t make you want to strut and sl*t drop then you’re definitely lying.

Lost – Bring Me The Horizon

I had to include this song in the list as it was the song that inspired the sound of ‘Help Me’ the most (always keeping that promo going haha). We specifically loved the use of an electronic melody in the hook paired with a big anthemic chorus. It feels like a return to the kind of stuff My Chemical Romance was doing in the early 2000’s.

Whether you’re deep in your feels or ready to hit the pit, there’s something in this list for every mood — and a little insight into the sonic world of This Space Is Ours.
