Take 5 With Tomorrow’s Forecast

Building on the momentum of their 2024 single ‘Pathetic’, which took them on an extensive tour and saw them perform alongside Bella Amor and Bean Magazine, Meanjin/Brisbane indie-rock outfit Tomorrow’s Forecast return with their latest release, ‘Ribbons’.

To celebrate the release, Tomorrow’s Forecast share with us their 5 favourite tracks of the minute and why.

How Was Your Day? – Stella Donnelly

I remember seeing Stella play this song at Splendour shortly before its release, and when we started chanting the title I knew the piece would last with me forever.  “How was your day” reflects on the fragments of chat right before your relationship needs a real talk…  Her conversational tone really emphasises this and makes her songs come alive and feel like a recent memory; this song, no exception.

Boyfriend (Repeat) – Confidence Man

I just love this track because it’s something you can dance to, and I think that’s the best way for to get over a breakup. It’s flirty and funny, and represents a different type of breakup where you just don’t like them very much and it isn’t that serious. We are such big Confidence Man fans and every time we’ve seen them live this song has gone OFF.

Young, Dumb, Immature – Betty Taylor

This song is so catchy, it’s one that I don’t even realise I’m singing along to. We have been fans of Betty Taylor for some time now, I think they are such a refreshing band to have in the scene. This song is just so real and honest, telling the common tale of being with someone who wants to change you. It’s saying it straight up how it is, I think any young woman can relate to being called Young, Dumb and Immature.

Still Have Room – Hockey Dad

This song is such an inspo, whether it’s the effortless melodies, creative bassline, or the driving rhythm section – these guys rock! Hockey Dad’s resonant lyrics stick with you, seamlessly touching on the theme of heartbreak. At first, the song reminded me of someone not being able to move on. Though, after playing it again and again… I often think about how it might be about moving forward through the different phases of your life. Losing friends, drifting, and change. Such an honest song and an easy listen.

Pressure to Party – Julia Jacklin

Julia Jacklin finds a new way to inspire me each and every time I listen to her music, and this song is no exception! We actually used to cover it in our set a couple years back, which is another reason why it’s such an obvious pick for me. It’s almost tongue-in-cheek, in a way, how upbeat and energetic the instrumentals are in comparison to the super honest and emotional lyrics. There’s seriously no better break-up song than one you can dance AND cry to.
