“Thaw” Out With A New Track From Woodes

Winter is well and truly here, but thanks to her hot new single The Thaw, Melbournian songstress Woodes is having no trouble keeping warm. With her last release Daggers and Knives still on rotation, this vocal  might just be immune to the chill.

In the first verse, a moody, funk-heavy bass melody layered with energetic percussion leads into woodes’ apathetic, Kimbra-esque vocals. The chorus generates a dreamy contrast as she explores the purity of her falsetto.

Meanwhile, the steady guitar melody offsets some of the bass heaviness with a James bay esque combination of playful and emotional. A glowing synth flies below the radar, glazing the whole track with a dreamy style and leaving just the right balance of acoustic and electronic, the warmth of natural instrumentation interspersed with subtle production.

Since stepping into the limelight on a collaborative EP with producer Elkkle, Woodes has gone from strength to strength with Daggers and Knives, Flash Mob, and now The Thaw. She is currently working on collaborative projects with Kilter, Milwaukee Banks, Set Mo, Kintaro, FØRD, and Golden Vessel.
