The Appointments’ Microcosm: Side A is a Genre-Defying Journey

Newcastle indie rock band The Appointments make a bold debut with their EP, Microcosm: Side A. With its roots in the early jams between brothers Rhys and Eli in a share house by the beach, the EP is a snapshot of their creative journey, capturing the evolution of the band from humble beginnings to one of Australia’s most exciting up-and-coming acts.

Recorded and produced entirely by Rhys Love in the band’s home studio, Side A reflects the DIY ethos that has shaped The Appointments’ sound. With influences ranging from the warm vintage tones of the 60s and 70s to the laid-back rhythms of reggae and Latin grooves, the EP showcases the band’s talent for blending eclectic styles into a cohesive, refreshing mix.

Each track on Microcosm: Side A boasts lush arrangements, featuring psychedelic indie-rock layered over a foundation of dub, reggae, and R&B beats. The Appointments’ ability to fuse these genres with infectious melodies and introspective lyrics makes the EP a compelling listen. Tracks explore themes of passion, joy, pain, and growth, offering both introspection and feel-good energy.

From the atmospheric breakdowns to the symphonic guitar tones, Microcosm: Side A is an immersive listening experience, marking The Appointments as a band to watch in the indie scene. Their ability to seamlessly blend world influences with raw emotion sets them apart and makes this debut EP a standout release.
