The Avalanches Release New Psychedelic Single “Colours”

Avalanches Shot

The Avalanches returned in extraordinary fashion just weeks ago with the release their first track in 16 years, Frankie Sinatra, boasting features from rap heavyweights MF DOOM and Danny Brown, alongside a bizarre, drugged out music video.

Since then we’ve been on the edge of our seats, being drip-fed teasers and live sets, all leading adding to the anticipation for their sophomore album ‘Wildflower’.

After their track with Toro Y Moi mysteriously leaked just days ago, fans have been eagerly awaiting some sort of official announcement. Now, to much of our surprise, instead of officially dropping the collaboration If I Was A Folkstar, we’ve now been treated to a completely new track titled Colours.

Featuring Jonathan Donahue, frontman of the experimental group Mercury Rev, this contrasting track could definitely be some consolation if you were disappointed with the bold and aggressive Frankie Sinatra. Inspired by hypnotic beats from J Dilla’s ‘Donuts’, Colours forms around an extremely unsteady, psychedelic sample which plays in reverse, sounding like a deep cut straight out of ‘Since I Left You’ or even The Beatles’ ‘The White Album’.

It’s certainly a refreshing and innovative single from the Melbourne-based trio. Take a listen to Colours below and try not to totally freak out as their album drops in under a month now! The Avalanches’ second album ‘Wildflower’ is released Friday 8th of July.
