The Favourite Reveal Cinematic New Video for Debut Single ‘When Did You Ever Want It?’

We’re stoked to exclusively premiere the official music video for Sydney indie-rock duo The Favourite and their debut single, ‘When Did You Ever Want It?’, a vibrant and cinematic visual that perfectly amplifies the emotional pulse of the song.

The track itself is an uplifting and nostalgic anthem, fusing bright melodies and anthemic choruses with a heartfelt storyline inspired by a messy situationship between two best mates. In an unexpected twist, the real couple that inspired the song actually star in the video, with one of them also being the band’s guitarist — adding an extra layer of authenticity to an already deeply personal story.

Visually, the ‘When Did You Ever Want It?’ video blends narrative storytelling and live performance, bringing the track’s emotional duality, heartbreak wrapped in euphoria — to life. Its cinematic edge mirrors the band’s dynamic sound, echoing influences like Sam Fender, Royel Otis, and Gang of Youths, while carving out a distinctly Sydney indie identity.

Produced by Adrian Breakspear (Gang of Youths, Amy Shark, Pacific Avenue, The Vanns), the track shines with crisp production, soaring guitar lines, and the undeniable chemistry between siblings Jack and Sophie Bown. Together, they’ve delivered a debut that’s both raw and radiant — a song and video that mark the arrival of a powerful new voice in Australian indie rock.
