The Inspiration Behind Alter Bridge’s Latest Track Ahead of New Album

Alter Bridge 2.0

It’s been three years since we got any new music from American rock legends Alter Bridge. With a spate of international shows and series of side projects, Alter Bridge have been a busy bunch. But the band have now finally announced their new album will be in your hands before the end of the year!

Alter Bridge consists of three former members of American hard rock band Creed. Following the demise of the Creed in 2004, guitarist Mark Tremonti, together with Brian Marshall and Scott Phillips subsequently announced the formation of Alter Bridge with new frontman Myles Kennedy.

With four studio albums under their belts, Alter Bridge’s latest effort ‘Fortress’ enjoyed immense success, achieving Top 10 spots in charts across Europe and reaching #12 in the US Billboard Album Charts. The Floridian quartet took some time creating their upcoming album ‘The Last Hero’ which is set to be even bigger than anything they have done before.

“Every time we do a record, my only goal is for people to simply think it’s better than the previous one. We pushed ourselves so hard last time, and we knew were going to push ourselves much harder here. When we brought material in, it had to outdo ‘Fortress’,” said Tremonti.

With ‘The Last Hero’ Alter Bridge have definitely ventured into new territory. “We don’t want to put out the same thing over and over again. We want to keep everyone guessing. There are three new tunings, and that helped keep us inspired,” said Tremonti.

“I’d never recorded on a seven-string until now. This is the first record where Myles planned out his solos beforehand. In the past, he would wing it with this magical, improvisational touch. What he did is amazing. Me and Slash have both said he’s the best guitar player in our bands.”

The recently released lead single Show Me A Leader is a politically fuelled banger. Kicking off with an intricate Spanish-sounding intro, the song erupts into an aggressive hard-rocking anthem with insane solos and glory that is the twin vocal attack of Kennedy and Tremonti.

Lyrically the song reflects a struggle and quest for certainty in these troubled times. “I threw out that ‘show me a leader’ line and Myles just ran with it. It’s good for this time and this climate and the world right now with all the chaos that’s going on in the world and the circus that is politics,” says Tremonti.

‘The Last Hero’ is to be released Friday, 7th of October. In the meantime catch the first instalment of Alter Bridge’s video series,“Behind The Song”, with a look at the first single Show Me A Leader and the lyric video below!
