The Kunins Deliver Heartfelt Depth on Double Single ‘The Levee / The Sorrow You Are Drawn To’

Today we’re thrilled to exclusively premiere the brand-new double single from Brisbane father-daughter duo The Kunins, ‘The Levee / The Sorrow You Are Drawn To’, ahead of its official release tomorrow. The pair step into a new creative stride here — weaving together folk, Americana, and country influences into two tracks that speak directly to the complexities of human connection and self-discovery.

Opening track ‘The Levee’ is a masterclass in emotional restraint. Built around gentle piano and acoustic guitar, it captures the tender moment between letting someone go and holding on a little longer. Lily Maia’s delicate yet assured vocals glide across her father Ken’s sparse arrangement, creating a song that feels both fragile and empowering — a reflection on love, self-worth, and the quiet bravery it takes to move forward.

On the flip side, ‘The Sorrow You Are Drawn To’ moves into darker, more introspective territory. Originally written a decade ago during a creative reawakening, it channels the ache and beauty of rediscovering one’s artistic voice. Sweeping strings and a cinematic folk sensibility carry the weight of that journey, highlighting Ken’s depth as both writer and producer.

Recorded in their home studio and mastered by GRAMMY Award-winning engineer Camilo Silva, the double single pays homage to the classic A-side/B-side tradition, pairing two complementary yet contrasting pieces. With ‘The Levee / The Sorrow You Are Drawn To’, The Kunins reaffirm their place as one of Brisbane’s most authentic and emotionally resonant acts — and AAA Backstage is proud to bring you the first listen.
