The Murlocs Like A Version Is A Winner

Geelong rockers The Murlocs stepped into the triple j studio this morning to cover Hot Chocolate’s classic Every 1’s a Winner. The 5-piece shook up the 1978 track with their alt-rock sound and really hit that special Like a Version mark.

The song was brought into a new realm with The Murlocs’ modernising the vintage rock sounds, adding in more guitars with more prominent riffs as well as some pop-rock synthy bits featuring throughout. Frontman Ambrose Kenny Smith also gave the track a cool effect with his harmonica which only further enhanced that awesome synth.

The tone of the track was just right with contrasting vocals from Smith and drummer Matt Blach. They gave this one a good twist, managing to slow down the track a bit while keeping it just as upbeat and fun with that awesome alt-rock twist.

The Murlocs have just wrapped up their national tour but their latest album ‘Young Blindness’ is defs worth a listen! Check out the title track HERE!
