The Wombats Unveil New Single ‘Can’t Say No’ Ahead of Sixth Album Release

UK indie rock icons The Wombats are back with a bang, dropping their latest single, Can’t Say No, as they gear up for the release of their sixth studio album, Oh! The Ocean, set to debut on February 14, 2025. The track captures the essence of reckless escapism, delving into the self-destructive tendencies we often embrace to mask inner turmoil.

Frontman Murph describes the song as a standout on the upcoming album.

‘Can’t Say No’ would be my favourite on the album I think, I kind of wanted it to sound like the 3 of us playing in a room together if that room was in space. The song is about making decisions that in no way benefit my future self, and in fact cause my future self a lot of problems. I never truly learnt to live ‘in’ the moment, I was only ever living ‘for’ the moment and as if that moment was going to be my last.” – Murph, The Wombats.

With vibrant lyrics exploring chaos and spontaneity, paired with spacey instrumentation, the track embodies the raw energy of the band playing live.

Oh! The Ocean represents a bold new chapter for The Wombats, showcasing their most adventurous sound yet. Collaborating with renowned producer John Congleton (St. Vincent, Wallows), the band spent six weeks refining their vision in LA, crafting a record rich in emotional depth and sonic exploration. Inspired by Murph’s transformative experience at the beach, the album reflects on self-discovery and reconnection with the world’s beauty.

Following the success of 2022’s UK #1 album, Fix Yourself, Not the World, The Wombats continue their indie-rock legacy with over 2.5 billion streams and a loyal global following.
