Tribute To The Smiths Coming To Brisbane
Legendary English-band The Smiths may be over, but their legacy lives on. Forming in Manchester, England in 1982, The Smiths are considered one of the most important and influential bands of the 80s. Featuring the bleak lyricism and sorrowful vocals of lead singer Morrissey and backed by the jangling guitar of Johnny Marr, the group became household names with immortal tracks This Charming Man, How Soon Is Now, and Bigmouth Strikes Again.
It was with their third album ‘The Queen Is Dead’ which led the band to become superstars, reaching #2 in the album charts and securing their legacy. The album is still considered a classic to this day, with it regularly featuring in lists of the greatest albums of all time.
In celebration of the 30th anniversary of ‘The Queen Is Dead’, Brisbane venue The Brightside will be hosting a number of local bands to play their favourite songs from across The Smiths’ vast discography.
Lineup includes The Gifthorse, Death Tourism, Shady Bliss, The Cassingles, Tom Cooney, Virginia Sook, Hanny J, Tiahn Berg, Luke Daniel Peacock, Halfway, and several more to be announced!
