GUEST PLAYLIST: Ceres – “Top 10 New Songs I’m Feeling Right Now”

Ceres

Melbourne heavy hitters Ceres are about to hit the road in support of their latest album ‘Drag It Down On You’, spearheaded by killer single Laundry Echo. In preparation for their road trip playlist, frontman Tom Lanyon has kindly curated for AAA a playlist of his favourite fresh tracks!

Owen – A Burning Soul

A good, honest no nonsense pop song from Mike Kinsella, from American Football fame. I just really like it. Reminds me of the old days. His new record The King Of Why’s was produced by S.Carey from Bon Iver—it’s really good.

American Football – I’ve Been So Lost For So Long

Speaking of American Football, this song is surprisingly really great. It would be so hard to come back from such a seminal record after such a long time, but I think they’ve nailed it. It’s not trying to be like their debut record, just something new, yet familiar.

Bon Iver – 22 (OVER S∞∞N)

And speaking of Bon Iver—Justin’s new song is just delish. Kind of like Heavenly Father Part II. Nothing wrong with that. Really hyped for his new record.

Japanese Wallpaper – Cocoon

Gab can do no wrong in my book. Another great song to add to the list of every other great song he’s ever written.

The Avalanches – Because I’m Me

I’ve been running to Wildflower a bit since it came out, so every time I hear this or any other song on the record, I feel a little sick. But, it’s still a great record, and Because I’m Me is such a sick opening track.

Slowly Slowly – Deathproof

Love Ben. Love Slowly, their new record and this song. Probably the best bridge ever written that the rest of the song sort of hinges off. I was lucky enough to sing on this record too. All good things.

Brightly – Rugby

Charlie has been a long time collaborator with Ceres and me personally. He is an understated genius and I’ve loved everything he writes/creates/puts out. Sometimes I think we are the same person.

Say Anything – Varicose Visage

I’ve been a fan of Say Anything for a long time, and while recently they’ve lost me a bit, their new record I Don’t Think It Is is a complete trip. So weird. This song especially.

Into It. Over It. – Vis Major

Love this song from Evan—seems like a throwback to his early stuff. This record’s production is so nice. Think it was done completely on tape.

Max Quinn – The Boys

Quick-witted Max, lost his Onomatopenis, but found his best song yet. Writes the songs I know I’ll never write.
