Torizon Dive Deep into Grief and Healing on Stirring New Single ‘Currents’
Brisbane-based petalcore outfit Torizon return with Currents, a cinematic and emotionally-charged new single out now. The track offers a glimpse into the band’s upcoming conceptual EP Meliora, set for release on Friday, 19 September.
Produced by Kalen Austin and mastered by Mike Kalajian (Bad Omens, Papa Roach), Currents is the third chapter in the band’s storytelling series, following the characters Luna and Sam as they navigate the trauma of miscarriage and the long road to healing.
The single blends ethereal vocals and finger-picked guitar with sweeping orchestral layers, thunderous riffs, and dual vocals from frontwoman Mish Sharma and bassist Ben Gallaher. The track’s lyrical themes use ocean metaphors to explore the cyclical nature of grief and PTSD recovery — a powerful expression of vulnerability and strength.

“This track reflects the part where Luna is still in the undertow of grief, confronting trauma re-emergence after losing her baby. We used the ocean as a metaphor – those tidal pulls mirror trauma-formed neural pathways she has worked hard to rewire. The shoreline represents her healed self, the place she keeps returning to despite the challenges. ‘Currents’ will resonate with anyone who has dealt with PTSD and childhood trauma.”
Accompanying the release is a touching music video, filmed in Meanjin/Brisbane and featuring real childhood imagery and powerful symbolism.
Torizon will hit the road in October for their first-ever East Coast headline tour, joined by Naarm’s New Million. With previous releases gaining traction on Spotify, Apple Music, triple j Unearthed, and community radio, Currents solidifies Torizon’s place in Australia’s heavy music scene.
