Torizon Unveil Emotional New Single ‘Sober’ and Announce Debut EP ‘Meliora’
Meanjin/Brisbane-based petalcore band Torizon have released their powerful new single ‘Sober’, a gripping preview of their upcoming debut EP ‘Meliora’, set for release on Friday 19 September. Alongside the single, the band has also announced a string of East Coast tour dates, cementing their place as one of Australia’s most emotionally charged and sonically intense heavy acts.
Produced and mixed by Kalen Austin and mastered by Mike Kalajian (Bad Omens, Windwaker, Papa Roach), ‘Sober’delivers an explosive blend of synths, heavy guitars, cinematic orchestration and dual vocals from frontwoman Mish Sharma and bassist Ben Gallaher. The track explores the emotional aftermath of loss, picking up the storyline from their previous single ‘Bloom’, diving deep into grief, love, and the destructive ways people cope with trauma.
Torizon describe ‘Sober’ as using “addiction as a metaphor to capture the gut-wrenching pain” of miscarriage. Its accompanying video, directed by Emerge Creative, features raw, real-life details including IVF needles from Mish’s personal egg donation journey.

“Sober picks up where Bloom left off – after Luna and Sam tragically lose their baby. It dives into the aftermath and how their relationship unravels under the weight of the miscarriage. We used addiction as a metaphor to capture the gut-wrenching pain they’re going through. It’s a harsh reality for many who’ve been in similar situations, where coping can sometimes mean self-destruction.” – Torizon.
Sober sees Torizon push the boundaries of progressive heavy music, combining deeply personal narratives with anthemic soundscapes and an unflinching emotional core.
