Three Doses of Fresh Electronica

CLASSIXX with Safe Inside feat. Passion Pit

Classixx

LA electronic duo CLASSIXX have teamed up with Passion Pit frontman Michael Angelakos to produce Safe Inside, a fresh take on a disco-style dance track. Classic? Potentially. Passionate? Absolutely!

Like the brainchild of The 1975 and St. Lucia, the song combines retro synthesisers with energetic rhythms, a failsafe combination for any dance floor hit. The song keeps up its energy from start to finish, filling the quirk quota with Angelakos’ strong, clean high register and old-school 80s disco vibes.

Safe Inside is a sneak peek of what’s to come from CLASSIXX’s second album ‘Faraway Reach’, due for release on Friday 3rd of June.

ST ALBION with Hold On feat. Teischa

ST ALBION

St Albion, headed up by Sydney-based producer Thomas Honeywill, is making leaps and bounds with Hold On, the debut single featuring Perth songstress Teischa.

Sparse verses allow the chorus to stand out, racked with sampling to keep things fresh and modern. Hardly distinguishable from early Flume (think back to his self-titled 2012 album), the breakdown is made for fans of quirky, clever, tasteful production.

Teischa’s emphatic vocals, sounding similar to Lana del Ray, Jess Kent, and Florence Welch, deliver that extra something the song needs and make the perfect vessel for the soulful refrain: “So tell my mother I’ll be home tomorrow/There’s things that I’ve been wanting, questions on my mind”.

Hold On is a first glimpse of St Albion’s upcoming debut EP, set for release later in the year.

FØRD with Folding Hills feat. Xavier Dunn

FORD

With his impressively mature third track Folding Hills18-year-old Byron Bay producer FØRD looks set to make a name for himself amongst Australia’s thriving electronic music scene.

Folding Hills is ultimately grounded by a few classic ingredients: warm rounded synths, playful whistling, and a classic dance track chord progression. Quivering, restrained production in the opening lines leaves plenty of room for fresh-faced vocalist Xavier Dunn to show off his pipes.

Building harmonies give the pre-chorus a beautiful complexity, falling away quickly to make room for the breakdown. The entire song hinges on the balance FØRD has achieved between busy and bare, working with the mixture of chorus melodies and rhythms as well as the delicate production in the verses.

Folding Hills is the third single from this young Byron Bay native. His second single Touch was released last week.
