Triple J Hottest 100 Australian Songs of All Time Is Here – But It’s More Ugg Boots Than Boardshorts This Time

Triple J’s Hottest 100 is back – but not as you know it.

This year, Triple J is counting down the Hottest 100 Australian Songs of All Time, and while Aussies are usually blasting bangers around beach BBQs and pool floaties, today’s celebrations are looking a little chillier. With cold snaps hitting much of the country, we’re swapping zinc for scarves and beers for brews by the fire.

Still, no weather can dampen the excitement for one of the biggest music events of the year – a special tribute to the homegrown anthems that have shaped generations.

So, what’s going to take out the top spot? Here are some red-hot predictions:

  • Powderfinger’s “These Days” – a song that hits right in the feels and has long been considered one of Australia’s greatest musical moments.
  • INXS’ “Never Tear Us Apart” – timeless, emotional, and iconic. It’s hard to imagine this not landing somewhere near the top.
  • Tame Impala’s “The Less I Know the Better” – arguably one of the most globally loved Aussie tracks of the last decade.
  • Silverchair’s “Tomorrow” – the grunge anthem that launched a generation of fans in the ‘90s could see a major nostalgia vote.
  • Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used to Know” – an international chart-topper with local roots and serious staying power.
  • Hilltop Hoods’ “The Nosebleed Section” – if Triple J listeners want to honour Aussie hip-hop, this could be the go-to.

There’s also chatter about Midnight Oil, The Presets, AC/DC, Flume, and Kylie Minogue all making appearances – proof that the scope of Aussie music excellence runs deep and wide.

Whether you’re rugged up in regional Victoria or throwing a party in the Top End, today is about cranking up the volume and showing love to the artists who’ve made Australia’s music scene one of the most exciting in the world.

So light the fire, grab your mates, and prepare for goosebumps – the Hottest 100 Australian Songs of All Time countdown is on, and it’s already legendary.
