In celebration of its 50th anniversary, Triple J has delivered a landmark unforgettable countdown: the first-ever Hottest 100 of Australian Songs, spanning the nation’s entire musical history. Over 2.65 million votes were cast, making it one of the broadcaster’s most massive listener-driven polls ever 

At the summit of the chart, INXS’s soaring 1987 ballad ‘Never Tear Us Apart claimed the coveted number‑one spot. Fans across generations have connected with its sweeping lyricism and emotional resonance, ensuring its place at the very peak of Australian music history.

The final Top 5 blends genres and decades: ‘The Nosebleed Section’ by Hilltop Hoods came in second, followed by The Veronicas’ ‘Untouched’ at three, Missy Higgins’ Scar’ at four, and Crowded House’s ‘Don’t Dream It’s Over’ rounding out the top five. Cold Chisel’s ‘Flame Trees’ and ‘Khe Sanh,’ Powderfinger’s ‘My Happiness,’ and Paul Kelly’s ‘How To Make Gravy’ also highlighted the Top 10, showcasing Australia’s songwriting legacy.
