UV Boi Drops Stellar Debut EP ‘L-UV’

Brisbane- based producer UV boi released his debut EP after two years of electronic music production from his studio, otherwise known as his bedroom. What sets UV boi apart from many other electronic music producers is that he doesn’t use a single sample in his EP ‘L-UV’, and instead collaborates with other artists and uses instrumental interludes throughout the album.

The EP is about finding love in an internet world and the tracks take us through the different phases of a relationship. A brief interlude called Rose Petals is plunked in the middle of the album, which consists of the classic heartbreak chant, ‘She loves me, she loves me not’, and which represents the uncertainty of a relationship. The EP maintains the theme of love throughout and the hip-hop vocals create a groovy and somewhat sensual feeling to tracks.

UV boi begins the album with an intro consisting solely of instrumentation and then moves into leading tracks Show You (feat. MTNS) and If She, If He (feat. EASTGHOST), which have generated a cult following and have accumulated over a quarter of a million Spotify streams. Both songs are rather radio-friendly, but that’s not to say they’re not unique and different — they most definitely are.

Even more impressive than 250k Spotify streams however, is 500k Spotify and SoundCloud plays, which the track LUV featuring Fionn Richards & Brasstracks has garnered. The catchy song sounds like a chilled-out trap version of a Chet Faker tune, with its swoony vocals and snares in the background.

Perhaps the most unique track on the EP is No Answer, which contains an array of trippy sounds with the underlying hum of a consistent wobbly bass. This one is definitely head bobber, and is our personal favourite.
