Velvet Bow Are All Grown Up With New Single ‘Lily Fuzz’

Velvet Bow have been making waves this year with their “surfadelic” rock and if their new single Lily Fuzz is anything to go by, these waves aren’t slowing down yet! To top off the good news and good vibes, the beachy track also comes with an East Coast tour announcement!

Velvet Bow are a 5-piece from Melbourne that have been experimenting on the scene since early 2013. The band officially released their first single Bombora earlier this year – a feel-good medley of fuzzy guitars and acidic vocals, which is the perfect soundtrack to a summer afternoon spent with friends and beers.

Their latest single Lily Fuzz has kept the same vibe, but turned it down a notch. The sun’s gone down, the beer’s starting to wear off, and everyone’s content. It’s thoughtful, but never depressing – ensuring you’ll feel good after listening to it.

Starting effortlessly, upbeat drums are arranged around melancholy chord progressions. The chorus features a lush male-female vocal harmony which can be heard throughout the rest of the song.

Some of the guitar effects on the track are reminiscent of Tame Impala, such as the fuzzy, distorted tone. Unlike Tame Impala, though, the guitars never dominate the song – instead, the strong harmonised vocals float above the rest of the track, and carry it forward.

As the song nears its end, a chilled-out guitar solo takes the stage. It never screams for attention, it’s just kind of happy to be there, and that’s what makes it so cool. Describing the feel-good vibe of the track, front man Ben Wade says it’s about the “ever-present, but not always so apparent optimism of adolescence.”
