Venice Qin Launches Debut Album 奔月 MOONLANDING and Shares 5 Inspirations Behind Her Hyperpop Breakthrough

Sydney-based rising star Venice Qin has unveiled her debut album 奔月 MOONLANDING, out now. A bold hyperpop statement, the record blends East and West, erhu and synths, heartbreak and high-energy BPMs, creating a world Qin describes as “all my phases, all my mess, all my magic.” Drawing on the Chinese legend of Chang’e, the moon goddess, 奔月 MOONLANDING becomes both myth and metaphor: a journey of escape, transformation, and finding home in the in-between.

With collaborators including Vetta Borne (Maribelle), Lucy Blomkamp, and Antonia Gauci, Qin delivers an album full of contrasts — from cinematic ballads to warped club anthems, even reimagining Dannii Minogue’s Put the Needle On It. Latest single ‘ANGEL’, and its haunting video shot in Ordos, China, captures heartbreak as isolation — a ghost city for a love that never was.

To mark the release, Qin spoke exclusively with AAA Backstage to share five tracks that shaped 奔月 MOONLANDING— from Britney and Madonna’s sweat-soaked Me Against the Music, to Rihanna’s defiant Man Down, to Diana Ross’ timeless The Boss. Each influence threads into Qin’s hyperpop universe, cementing her as one of Australia’s most exciting new pop voices.

“Me Against the Music” – Britney Spears, featuring Madonna

To me, this song embodies sweat – it’s hot, fierce, intimate yet loud. Both Britney and Madonna have absolutely pioneered pop culture, and I find all of their work to be timeless. I’ve always been a loud, in your face singer, but I was super inspired by the vocal delivery across this track. It prompted me to have a play around with 奔月 MOONLANDING, and see how I could serve a more intimate-sounding vocal.

“Man Down” – Rihanna

The baddest of them all. Defiance is a major theme across 奔月 MOONLANDING, and one of the greatest references for that is Rihanna. The reggae beat used in it is so clever, and to me it really broke the mold of what a “defiant, ultra-badass woman” pop song could sound like.

“A day in the water” – Christine and the Queens

This song perfectly encapsulates what my dream ballads would sound like. Expansive, with so much space to let things sit, and lots of intricate, small details in the soundscape. I’m such a big fan of Christine and the Queens (also known as Rahim Redcar), everything they make always comes with so much space for the imagination. Their album “PARANOIA, ANGELS, TRUE LOVE” was a game changer for me.

Put the Needle On It” – Dannii Minogue

I think the fact that I love this song so much that I had to remix it and put it on my album says it all! It’s hot, it makes you want to groove, and the hook is so catchy. It’s giving ultimate feminine energy, and is something that I wanted to truly embrace in 奔月 MOONLANDING.

“The Boss” – Diana Ross

I probably listened to this song on repeat for three months when I first heard it. There’s a specific remix done by Dmitri from Paris that’s my favourite, because it highlights the drama of the keys and strings. But this song makes me feel everything, it encourages me to surrender to every emotion and let go. I’ve learnt that when music can give you that particular feeling… nothing beats it. I think it was a state of mind I carried across all of the making of 奔月MOONLANDING, which I’m proud of.
