Artist Spotlight: Verge Collection
Indie-pop new comers Verge Collection have released boppy new single Class of 09. The Perth outfit are currently supporting Cold War Kids on their Australian tour and have what seems to be a busy 2016 ahead of them.
Breakout single Our Place was picked up by triple j earlier on this year and scored Verge Collection a cult following and a slew of impressive support slots through their happy-go-lucky guitar driven vibes and colloquial lyrics. Similarly, Class of 09 shares the upbeat indie-rock vibes of its predecessors with just a hint of surf punk inspiration.
Class of 09 matches Our Place’s lyrical flair well, focusing on admittedly first world teenage problems in a way that any average suburban high school kid can relate to. “It was a high school heart/ you really made a mess of your self-respect” reminiscing on those awkward moments all teenagers have at some point. Sung with a loveable and unapologetic Australian accent, Verge Collection’s down to earth lyrics are the heart and soul of their sincere sound.
Class of 09 comes from Verge Collection’s debut EP due out mid-year, promising more relatable indie-pop sing-alongs and catchy guitar riffs.
