Virgin Mary Disco Reveal Their New Single, ‘Automation’

Naarm/Melbourne four-piece indie rock outfit Virgin Mary Disco has revealed their new single, Automation. The upbeat jam follows on from their previous recent release, Modern Man.

Automation is filled with a wave of emotions and a wide sonic variety. Carrying elements of post-punk and touches of classic Australian moments, it’s a pretty diverse tune. It builds subtly throughout with a massive drop towards its final stand, giving off those goosebumpy epic vibes, the ending is truly epic and is beyond their years.

Lyrically the track touches on the idea of our world constantly evolving towards a machine-driven workforce; it’s written from the perspective of an AI machine taking over the earth.

“We wanted the song to take the listener on a journey rather than just making one bold statement. When recording the song, we had the vision for it to sound almost ‘automated’ or machine-like, particularly in terms of the very straight drum beat, with that added delay on the hi-hats and snare (taking influence from post-punk’s experimental drum sounds) The drums and bass were meticulously recorded to achieve this.” Liam Spicer-Quinn, VMD Bassist.

Having only launched themselves into the scene this year, they’re already off to a mammoth start with two singles under their belt. Virgin Mary Disco will play a single launch at Melbourne’s Retreat Hotel on Friday, April 28, to celebrate this one, so if you’re around, do get along.

Automation is available now everywhere.
