Wishes Drops Mystical Debut Music Video
John Towey, AKA Wishes, has put together an interstellar love story for the music video for his debut single, I Wish I Was Alone With You, letting audiences watch an almost-but-not-quite romance unfold in front of them.
The clip features a man and woman who desperately want each other’s embrace being kept apart by all manner of strange and mystical ways. From being bound by ropes, to being violently pulled apart by an unseen force, the pair will never be able to be together.
The video employs all manner of simple but effective tricks to tell the story, such as the man undressing in reverse, giving the impression of a magical neck tie and floating jacket. Lighting, smoke and digital image manipulation also play a part in the production, with the pair seeming to float around space in the closing moments.
The track itself is a synthesiser-driven pop song, with a funky percussive beat underlying the whole thing. Channelling a Friendly Fires or Passion Pit sound in the verses, and moving to a more dancey vibe in the choruses, the manipulated vocal lines provide melody and rhythm alongside the layers of electronic sounds. Throughout the song, you’re waiting for that chorus to hit so you can get another taste of the earworm title lyric.
Towey, was previously the frontman of Future Classics-signed Convaire, and is exploring other sounds with this solo project, Wishes. He has been the Australian support for Neon Indian, as well as getting a lot of attention from international industry blogs.
