Woodlock Return With Dark, Glitchy Jam “Something Broke That Day”

woodlock

New Zealand-Australian trio Woodlock have come bursting back into the world with their latest track Something Broke That Day, and they’ve gotten a long way into crafting sounds of their own for this one.

Starting with the combination of deep, brooding vocals from frontman Eze Walters, dark vocal harmonies, and a stuttering acoustic guitar line, the song shapeshifts and transforms in its runtime. Layers keep adding in, starting with a synthesised bass line and drum beat, before melodies and hooks, glitchy electronic sound effects, and distorted choral chanting.

This all comes together to offer a unique sound, but one that very definitely fits in with the melancholy subject matter of a breakdown of a relationship. The song was reportedly born from a comic that Walters found in China that discussed a love triangle that ended in murder, and this drove the trio to write the track, and street clear of their usual upbeat tones.

Woodlock have come a long way since their beginnings as a busking trio in Melbourne’s CBD. Their second EP ‘Labour Of Love’ was the start of their rise to fame, and their track Sirens charted in a whole stack of places around the country, seeing the two NZ-born brothers and their Melbournian friend conquering the airwaves.

Along with the new single, the electro-poppers have announced a tour that will bring their material to your eyes and ears. The trio will be hitting a string of dates in January that include East Coast cities and Adelaide.
