Young Overachievers Mosquito Coast Drop Single & Announce Tour
Australian teens are really good at making music! This fact has been known since like 1995 when the then 14-year-old Silverchair decided to induct themselves as the second coming of Nirvana.
Mosquito Coast is just one of the many young Aussie talents making waves. As last year’s winner of triple j’s Unearthed High (the ultimate title for any band who still has to worry about things like detentions and no-hat-no-play) these guys seem to be continually outdoing themselves.
The Perth duo have graced our ears with a brand new single Let’s Be Friends. The track has that same lush and lazy Sunday afternoon sound that propelled the pair to claim their title. The buzzy guitar is full of that infectious warmth so reminiscent of their winning track Call My Name (Which also came in at #101 in 2015’s Hottest 200).
You’d be fooled for thinking that the band is older, given the nostalgia they easily ooze. Their ol-skool sound and wistful lyrics are wise beyond their years…
In Let’s Be Friends, Mosquito Coast Shows that young Australian bands are more than capable of holding our own. Especially when compared to the similar lo-fi East Coast scene that boasts bands like Best Coast, Wavves, and Cherry Glazerr.
The band have also announced some long-awaiting live dates, so now you can get groovy to their slick guitar licks and dreamy vocals in the flesh. Hitting up a short run of venues across the country, the band will also be playing at BIGSOUND, which everyone should be madly excited for!
