Zac Eichner Reveals Whole Hearted New Single, ‘Not A Break-Up Song’

Adelaide-based indie-electronic artist Zac Eichner recently returned with his heartfelt cut ‘Not A Break-Up Song’ – produced by the artist himself alongside Matt Cooper.

‘Not A Break-Up Song’ begins with melancholy electric piano and Zac’s simmering, effortless vocals that drip with poignant depth and feeling. The hook is permeated with rich backing vocals and an earnest horn section that swells and builds, adding soul to the emotive layers of this luscious single.

“’Not A Break-Up Song’ is the final song in the series of ‘Naked’, ‘Autumn’ & ‘Fool’,” explains Zac. “It follows where I left off and where I’ve landed recently. I’ve battled with depression, anxiety and self-destructive behaviour. I’ve worked hard, to pull away from that person I once was which has led to meeting my partner. It’s a song of hope, determination and reflection. Ironically named ‘Not A Break-Up Song’, I’m only breaking up with a previous version of myself.”

Alongside the single is a gorgeously captivating video clip – filmed and edited by Neal Whittaker at Composed, The Studio in NSW. The clip features a one take shot of an improvised dance from performer Rob McLean, encapsulating the emotion of the song with suave, expressive movements.

“This movement piece captures the internal battle and eventual release that the lyrics represent,” explains Zac. “I think Rob and I have both been going through our own battles and watching him move to this, solidified my intentions with this song. A sense of self-reflection and intensity in the beginning and complete escape, hope and release toward the end.”

Zac Eichner strives to find the deeper meaning within his music. Taking cues from Chet Faker, Bon Iver and Gang of Youths, he uses ambiguity to emphasise the resounding sentiments behind his lyrics. Outside of creating music, Zac is involved with The Carly Ryan Foundation where he passionately encourages and works on youth harm protection.
