Zef Fans Rejoice, Die Antwoord Break Up (Mostly) A False Alarm
If you’ve been following Die Antwoord lately you’ll know there’s been some confusion about whether the South African rap-rave group are breaking up. Well never fear ’cause Die Antwoord leading lady Yo-Landi has (sort of) cleared things up for us!
The singer/rapper took to Instagram last week to slam the journalist who she claims “twisted their words” and led many of their fans to believe the beloved duo might be splitting up! Yo-Landi was quick to clear things up (or not!?) by saying that the group will begin work on their fifth (and final?) album in 2017.
Since forming in 2008, the group have kept mysterious about the duration of their career together, as they originally told their fans they would release five albums before they ‘disappear’. So, despite the group’s denial the end of Die Antwoord may indeed be slowly creeping up on us!
For those of you who haven’t heard of Die Antwoord you may have heard some of their most popular music. Their clever fusion of alternative hip-hop and zef (modern trashy, luxurious gangster – “you’re poor but you’re fancy, you’re poor but you’re sexy) culture has brought them international success, lead by their 2012 hit I Fink You Freeky.
Confusion aside, it looks like 2017 will be a year to rejoice for Die Antwoord fans as Yo-Landi also announced they’ll be working on a feature film together!
If you’re afraid you might not see the zef gods again, the South African rap-rave group are heading Down Under for this year’s Origin NYE Festival in Perth. Until then, listen to their new gloriously NSFW track Fat Faded F*ck Face below!
