Asta Drops Funky New Single “Shine” & Debut EP News
Tasmanian-born but now Sydney-based songstress Asta is back on the scene with the lead single from her debut EP, Shine.
Following on from her 2015 hit Dynamite, which reached #47 in triple j’s Hottest 100, Asta’s new track carries plenty of funk blended into her progressive club-style production.
Her recent collaboration with Yeo on his track Frost seems to have influenced her own style, as Shine features sporadic funk glitches amongst Asta’s current love affair with ringing piano and booming bass. The verses in the new single also feature percussion similar to the Rolling Stone’s iconic song Sympathy For The Devil, which one way or another makes Shine hella catchy!
Lyrically the song is about self-empowerment and proving to all those haters you can actually achieve whatever the heck you want to, if you work at it hard enough.
“Shine is just about growing up! Awkwardly learning to trust my gut, savour the good, bouncing back from crap and ultimately just going my own way,” says Asta.
The funk-tastic new single is the first taste of Asta’s debut EP, slated for release in early 2017 along with a national tour. Her latest releases are somewhat of a far cry from her humble dance-folk 2012 triple j ‘Unearthed High’ origins.
Her first two singles Escape and I Need Answers highlighted Asta’s amazing vocal abilities and brooding pop songwriting. Shine confirms her shift towards funk-pop writing, so her debut EP should be full of energy, groovy beats, and her knack of singing equally impressive and catchy melodies.
