Cub Sport Sparkle In Euphoric New Single ‘Always Got The Love’

Meanjin (Brisbane) band/actual Australian icons Cub Sport have returned with a glittering upbeat banger, ‘Always Got The Love’.

Treating us to their first new original music in two years, this track marks a bright, beautiful new era for angels Tim Nelson, Dan Netterfield, Sam Puusaari and Zoe Davis. Since releasing their debut album ‘This Is Our Vice’ in 2016, the quartet have gone from strength to strength, putting out three subsequent albums, ‘BATS’, ‘Cub Sport’ and ‘Like Nirvana’.  The band has garnered an ardent fanbase, especially within LGBTQI+ communities, so it’s only fitting that this tantalising new taste of Cub Sport comes during Pride Month.

Always written from the heart, Cub Sport specialise in ethereal, floaty bangers that intimately document their personal stories and experiences. Their all-encompassing shimmering soundscapes are made even more magical with the ever-stunning, crystalline vocals from frontman Tim.

Tim co-wrote and co-produced ‘Always Got The Love’ alongside KLLO’s Simon Lam, with mixing done by Andrew Dawson (Kanye West, Childish Gambino). He dove into the story behind ‘Always Got The Love’, saying: “I‘ve always felt like the songs that people can cry to are important but I think being able to celebrate and move is equally important and that’s kind of where I’m at right now. I wanna make music that makes people feel uplifted. When we finally got to play shows in support of ‘Like Nirvana’, I was reckoning with all of this pain as I was revelling in the freedom of even being able to do that. I knew I wanted to make music that aligned with that emotional purity but make it feel and sound like a celebration. The result is a song that captures a moment of pure rapture, transmuting a golden moment in 2021 — a stop on a road trip at a heavenly beach — into dance floor euphoria.”

Already amassing over 170k streams on Spotify alone and finding prime spots in a string of editorial playlists since it’s release, it’s clear this euphoric track is hitting home with audiences. The glittering house piano, two-step beat and driving bass culminate into the sonic equivalent of a warm embrace. Having spent a large chunk of their catalogue crafting incredible, vulnerable ballads exploring emotional turmoil, Cub Sport are now fully immersing themselves in the euphoric, and showing the uncomplicated, beautiful and light side of queer love.

The pride anthem is accompanied by a music video- their biggest yet. Filmed at The Paint Factory Yeronga, directed by Jack Birtles and produced by Tilly Towler, the visual for ‘Always Got The Love’ is a show of pure, unfiltered passion- set in “queer club utopia”. Find it below.
