De La Soul Are ‘Straya Bound For The Summer
Hip Hop royalty De La Soul are headed our way for a run Australian shows in November, all thanks to the Red Bull Music Academy.
De La Soul’s Aussie tour will kick off on the 11th of November in Perth before then heading east to Byron Bay and Sydney. Sounds like the perfect way to kick off fast approaching summer months if you ask us!
After spending early 2015 launching a kickstarted campaign to fund their ninth album (and first in 11 years) ‘And The Anonymous Nobody…’, De La Soul’s live sets are sure to feature new cuts off their album as well material from earlier releases like ‘3 Feet High and Rising’ and ‘De La Soul Is Dead’.
Having collaborated with the likes of The Gorillaz, Snoop Lion/Snoopzilla/Snoop Dogg, and Usher, The Long Island outfit’s sound is heavily inspired by jazz and urban groove. They’re no stranger to simple, funky as hell bass lines, along with some foot tapping percussion which can turn any lounge room into an upbeat jazz club.
Their new-ish TrainWreck shows the group (whose first release was way back in 1989!) have still got it, delivering fast and tight spitting over the top of their mix, not to mention the crazy sampling the group can throw in, turning the song into a literal (cool) train wreck…
