EP Review: Motez ‘The Vibe’

Motez The Vibe 2016

Motez has been well known in the Australian dance music scene for years now and has many accredited house tracks and remixes to his name. Following a pretty busy 2015, the Adelaide producer is planning on making 2016 even bigger with the release of EP ‘The Vibe’. After kicking off the new year with single Down Like This, Motez’s highly anticipated EP will be released on Friday 22 April. The Aussie producer on the rise explores both old and new sounds on his newest group of tracks on ‘The Vibe’.

Motez paired up with Adelaide rapper Tkay Maidza for opening track Down Like This. The two have worked together before and this acquaintance is very noticeable and gives the song a high potential to become the EP’s standout club track. Motez’s production skills are very evident and bring an energetic electric sound with deep electronic intervals and percussion beats that carry the pulsating mysterious tune. Tkay Maidza’s catchy rap delivery gives the song some catchy vocal parts and an energetic vibe that helps nudge Down Like This into banger territory, even with it’s minimal production.

“The clever production is filled with melodious tunes and cruisy build-ups that erupt in beats of euphoric deep house.”

The EP’s second track Like You was made in collaboration with G-house producer Danny Chien a.k.a Wax Motif. The smooth electronic song has hints of UK garage and brings a pleasant energetic pop quality to Motez’s nightclub vibe. The clever production is filled with melodious tunes and cruisy build-ups that erupt in beats of euphoric deep house. The song is a striking example of the beauty that can emerge when two talented producers build a track together.

Third track Know Me brings a unique and slightly ominous sound which we’ve not quite heard from Motez before. A Piano progression gives the song a melancholic start that steadily becomes empowered by a weaving synth-bass combining with minimalistic production and jagged vocals. The track breaks free in a deep house beat backed up by energetic loops and stop-start vocals. The rhythm finally slows down towards the end of the song to finish off in the same sedated piano progression.

“Scrufizzer’s rapping and vocals are given equal turns in domination, bringing a fresh addition to Motez’s signature pulsating house sound.”

Final and title track The Vibefeaturing English MC Scrufizzer, starts off with a smooth electronic beat carried by Scrufizzer’s Dizzee Rascal-like vocals. The beat speeds up with a few clever kinks and bleeps before it drops into a deep house beat. Scrufizzer’s rapping and vocals are given equal turns in domination, bringing a fresh addition to Motez’s signature pulsating house sound.

‘The Vibe’ showcases Motez’s sophisticated producing skills that deliver smooth electronic songs which more often than not drift into banger territory. Whatever direction the tracks take he never fails to flawlessly blend in his pulsating house sound that’ll have you nodding your head and tapping your feet. The EP sees successful collaborations that make rap a pleasant new feature in Motez’s music. The Adelaide producer takes off on an Australian tour in May, check out the dates and venues below!
