EXCLUSIVE: Citizen Rat Unleash Explosive New Punk Single ‘Truth/Lie’ – First Listen Here

Brisbane punk rockers Citizen Rat are back with a vengeance, and we’re stoked to bring you the exclusive first spin of their brand new single, Truth/Lie, ahead of its official release tomorrow, June 13.

Following their breakout success with Shut My Mouth, the band crank the volume even higher with this anthemic new track, showcasing everything fans love about Citizen Rat, gritty riffs, unfiltered emotion, and a no-holds-barred delivery. Truth/Lie hits like a sonic gut-punch, with distorted guitars and chaotic energy layered beneath frontman Dartanyon Hutchison’s trademark vocal grit.

Lyrically, the song cuts deep. Truth/Lie dives into the mental tug-of-war between authenticity and self-deception, confronting the masks we wear and the stories we tell ourselves just to make it through. It’s angsty, noisy, and packed with the kind of raw power that defines the modern Aussie punk scene.

“This song came from a place of inner conflict — that moment where you realise pretending isn’t working anymore, even if it is the safest place you know. It (Truth/Lie) explores the inner battle of building false narratives about who you are. It’s about getting lost in the stories you tell yourself—stories that isolate, distort, and blur your identity. In the darkness of those lies, there’s also a strange kind of safety. A shield. A coping mechanism.…a way to survive.”Dartanyon Hutchison.

This marks another bold step forward for Citizen Rat, who have quickly become one of Queensland’s most exciting live acts. Truth/Lie sees them prove once again they’re not afraid to get loud, get honest, and have a damn good time doing it.
