Five Things You Didn’t Know About Aussie Rockers Tied Down
Following on from a big 2021, Perth’s Tied Down have released an explosive new single ‘Slow’, and filled us in on some fun facts about the band.
Made up of CJ Russell (lead vocals), Stephen Daw (lead guitar), Kaden Barnett (rhythm guitar/vocals), Dean Cross (drums), and Daniel Dols (bass), Tied Down create a special fusion of rock that pulls in elements of punk, rap and indie-rock. No stranger to dealing with intimate subject matter in their lyrics, their new single ‘Slow’ revolves around their personal struggles with addiction and redemption. The energetic and ultimately optimistic track was written and recorded at Hopping Mouse Studios with producer Matt Templeman (Sly Withers, Voyager), and mastered by Simon Struthers (Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, Karnivool, Something For Kate).
The boys have put together five facts about them that you probably don’t already know- read below to learn more about them!

1.Kaden and Dean met Steve in Tokyo on a rooftop – they made the connection that they were from Perth and were all heading to Fuji Rock and when they got back to Perth they reconnected and formed Tied Down.
2.Within 10 minutes of arriving in Bunbury on our first WA tour, CJ realised he hadn’t even brought a pair of shoes along. We had about 20 minutes until soundcheck so Steve had to drive him to Target in the band mobile in a mad rush. They parked up at the shops and as they were getting out, a lady reversed straight into the back of Steve’s car. Made for a crazy first 25 minutes of the tour!
3.Tied Down is made up of a Sparky, a Panel Beater, a patio builder, a diesel mechanic and a psychologist. Coming from all different walks of life but also very different music tastes like punk, metal, reggae, indie rock and hip hop. We come together to meet in the middle to make TD’s sound.
4.‘Oceans’ was the very first song we ever recorded way back in 2018. It was recorded with our entire first EP, which was done in the boy’s spare bedroom, mixed and mastered by Kaden himself. The track was later re-recorded in 2021 for a bit of extra oomph.
5.Tied Down were selected by Hands Like Houses to accompany them on their WA tour in early 2021 across 3 legs, which inspired the boys to take their live show to the next level.
