Green Buzzard Go Straight-Up 90s In “Do You Ever Glow”
I hope you’ve been brushing up on your ‘American Pie’, your ‘Eurotrip’ and your ‘Loser’, because Green Buzzard have just dropped their latest track, and if it doesn’t give you 90’s teen movie vibes, you can call me Sally. Do You Ever Glow is going to get some nostalgia trips coming thick and fast.
There’s a lot going on in the track, and the number of 90s-inspired factors is growing all the time. The thick, bass-laden fuzz that forms the foundation of the track permeates the whole 2:47 runtime, giving the track a Pixies or Smashing Pumpkins flavour. This is matched with a heavy modified electric guitar sound mixed with a synthesiser piercing through the higher register.
The titular line “Do you ever glow” erupts forward before the chorus which sounds like a anthemic 90s pop-punk line mixed over an 80s goth track. The production values on this track are a lot higher than the band’s previous releases, and you can tell they’ve been working on their songwriting styles. However, overall, you could almost picture the montage scene that would feature this track in a late 90s teenage we’ve-just-left-school-and-we’re-going-to-find-ourselves films.
The Sydney five-piece have been all over the place recently. Earlier this year they dropped their ‘Easy Queezy Squeezy’ debut EP, and set off on a number of tours as well as conquering the ever massive Splendour in the Grass. This track looks like the beginning of a new direction, and we can’t wait to here the final products.
